There are many things that make the Live Your Best Life Sensory Run 5K a special event. One of them is the medal contest, where people we serve submit a drawing based on the “Live Your Best Life” theme. The submissions are voted on with the favorite becoming the 5K medal design. This year’s winner is Morryah Green.
Morryah is a shining star in the Iowa City Day Program. Her staff talk about her lighting up every room with her boundless enthusiasm and infectious excitement. When Angie Weaver, one of Morryah’s staff in the Day Program, asked if she wanted to create a medal design for this year’s Live Your Best Life Sensory Run medal contest, Morryah’s face lit up with a huge smile.
Angie and Morryah sat down together to brainstorm ideas for the design. When Angie mentioned music and dancing, Morryah joyously started dancing in her seat. Inspired by the moment, Angie sketched a picture of Morryah dancing to music, with the Systems Unlimited Sun shining brightly in the background—a perfect representation of the warmth that Morryah brings to every interaction she has.
Once the sketch was done, with hand-over-hand assistance, Morryah colored the drawing with bright and beautiful colors. The medal design is not just a piece of art, but a symbol of joy and collaboration. “You’re not just running or walking when you are a part of our 5K, you’re joining a community that believes in celebrating all people’s unique talents and abilities,” stated SUI Marketing Coordinator Alex Musel.
Everyone completing this year’s 5K will receive Morryah’s medal. If interested in registering, please go to our event sign up at runsignup.com. Registration prices increase after August 30.
