Donations

Financial Donations
Donate online or send a check in care of Jolene Sorenson to 2533 Scott Blvd SE, Iowa City, IA 52240 for various programs:
Steve Smith Keep on Moving Fund:
This fund allows the people we serve to go on a once in a life time trip that they normally couldn’t afford. In honor of Steve Smith who loved to travel.
Giving Tree Fund:
This fund is to make sure all the people we serve have a great holiday. This fund specifically goes towards presents and food gift cards for the people we serve that do not have family or friends to celebrate with during the holidays. It also ensures that all people we serve have enough money to purchase a special meal. Any left over money is spent to purchase winter coats, boots, gloves and hats for people served that cannot afford to purchase these items on their own.
Art Program:
People we serve are encouraged to explore their life through art. Their art work is made into t-shirts, mugs and various items to be sold at local art shows. People we serve are completely a part of the process of choosing their art and attending art shows to showcase their work.
Staff Appreciation Fund:
This is a fund that we use for various incentives for our direct care staff. Currently, this money is going towards gift bags for staff that are working with people served that have COVID-19 or those that are in quarantine.
Annual Appeal Fund:
This goes towards our general fund and priorities for its use change yearly.
General Fund:
Funds goes towards operational costs. You can also specify a division that you want your money to go towards.
Planned Giving
Systems Unlimited has endowments set up at the Community Foundation of Johnson County and the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. There is a variety of ways to give to the Systems Unlimited endowments, and each method could provide a tax advantage. We recommend you talk with your tax professional and/or lawyer to determine what the best strategy is for you.
Gift types include cash, identification as a beneficiary of an insurance policy, a gift of real estate, a charitable gift annuity, and the transfer of stock, a memorial gift, and naming of the Systems Unlimited Endowment in a will.

More Ways to Give
Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, nonprofits, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. Look to our event page for specific campaigns for Giving Tuesday. Systems Unlimited Inc. has created an Amazon Wish List for you to help change lives, one at a time. Find our list here and donate today.
In-Kind Donations
If you would like to donate a gently used item, please contact Jolene Sorenson to discuss the item. We will be able to accept most gently used items that are similar to our amazon wish list. We do not accept used large soft surface items such as mattresses, sofas and chairs or medical items such as bandages or creams.
Be a Volunteer
There are many ways to volunteer at Systems Unlimited. A lot of positions require a back ground check. Please email Jolene Sorenson at jolene.sorenson@sui.org for questions or to sign up.
Board of Directors
Systems Unlimited is always looking for people with a variety of expertise to help guide the agency management team. This is a three year position with the opportunity to sign up for three more. Parents and people we serve are encouraged to sign up.
Human Rights Committee
We are passionate about human rights. By being on the Human Rights Committee, you will be in a pivotal role of reviewing all rights restrictions and ensure the people we serve have due process. This is a two year position.
Friend of Systems
Get to know a person we serve and commit to doing something monthly with your new friend. Weekly connection either by phone, text or message is also encouraged.
Special Events Volunteer
This is for special events and can be done in usually one day.
Share Your Talents with Day Program
If you have a talent that you would like to share, please reach out. We are always interested in having musicians and area performing artists come to our day program.
Speakers Bureau
This is for a group of people that enjoy talking about Systems to other people. If you would like to talk to your organization, church, psychology class or anywhere else about the work we do, please reach out to get materials and pointers. On the other hand, if you know of an organization that is looking for speakers let us know!
Yard Work
Volunteer to assist with planting and yard work at our residential locations.
Other Ways to Help
Shop at Amazon.Smile and choose Systems Unlimited as your charitable organization. A percentage of the sales is donated to Systems Unlimited.
Donate items to the Systems Unlimited account at Stuff Etc. in Iowa City, Coralville, or Marion.
Donate to the United Way and select Systems Unlimited as the organization you want to support.
