Phi Kappa Psi has chosen Systems Unlimited as their charity this semester. They are a philanthropic fraternity that has been part of the University of Iowa since shortly after the Civil War. Their moto is “The Great Joy of Serving Others” and currently has over 1200 alumni. The fraternity became involved with Systems through a family connection.
As part of their partnership, they are working with Systems to come up with several activities that they and people we serve can enjoy together. The first event was held on March 8th where the men and people we serve watched a movie at Sycamore Mall. Due to a generous grant from Johnson County, Systems was able to pay for the theatre so it was free for all involved. The men spread out in the theatre so people we serve could sit near them to encourage mingling.
In April, several activities are planned including going to the trampoline park, working on art projects and going for a walk in the park. The men have also chosen a day where they will help with yardwork at several homes owned by Systems across Iowa City.
Not only are they getting together with the people we serve, they are also fundraising for us with a ceremony to be held at the end of April. We truly appreciate this partnership and hope to see it in years to come.
